    14th November is marked as World Diabetes Day across many nations and is also celebrated as Children’s Day in India every year on the birth anniversary of our first Honorable Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. So this post is dedicated to both combined.

    The theme for World Diabetes Day 2018-2019 is ‘The Family and Diabetes’. It focuses on the fact that families need to work together in adopting a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent and manage diabetes.  This day seeks to raise awareness among families to discover facts about diabetes. Whereas, Children’s Day is celebrated across India to increase awareness of the rights, care and education of children. So today’s recipe is an attempt to address both the issues.

    Type 2 diabetes, previously known as the adult onset disease, is on a rise among young children and teens, owing to obesity and lack of physical activity. But sometimes it can be acquired due to genetic reasons too. Since even I am pretty much prone to acquiring this disease due to my family medical history, I pay extra attention to not only mine but also to my kids lifestyle.

    So the best thing I try do is not to consume anything that is unnaturally sweetened and also get minimum of 20 minutes of daily physical strenuous exercise.

    I am sharing this recipe in an attempt to completely eliminate white sugar from our lives. Hopefully you like it and if you do, please share your experience.

    Step 1

    In a blending jar, blend together ripe banana, strawberries and cashew nuts/silken tofu. Add very little salt and lime juice just to balance all flavors.
    (Note: If using cashew nuts instead of tofu, then soak them overnight or 4-5 hours in warm water. It will blend in better.)

    Once everything is blended nicely, transfer the smooth mixture in a freezer safe container. Freeze the mixture until completely frozen.

    Crush the graham crackers/nutrichoice digestive biscuits. You can do so by putting them in a ziplock bag using a rolling pin to to crush the biscuits.
    You can also do the same step with dark chocolate cookies. (Optional: You can also use Cacao Powder instead of dark chocolate cookies)

    Step 4
    Mark as Complete

    Take out the container 20-30 minutes prior to be served. Dip the spoon or small ladle like spoon in hot water and scoop out the frozen mixture.

    Roll the scooped out mixture over the crushed cookies. Make sure to coat each and every piece thoroughly.
    (Note: Do it as quick as possible to prevent it from melting.)
    Serve immediately.
